Today I bought new shoes. The store didn’t have my size in the same model I have been wearing for the past 1000+ kms so I had to switch to a different model. Hopefully it doesn’t cause me any issues.
Other than the shoe shopping, we visited the museum and went to three cafes.
One thing that I’ve been loving having access to in Wellington is wet food. On trail, everything we carry is eaten dry or needs to have water added to it. Anything that carries moisture is additional weight that we try to avoid. So vegetables are rare on trail, and couscous and dried fruit are staples. But in the city, I get to have all the wet food I like!
Tonight we are staying with friends who’ve just arrived back from Christmas and New Years in America. They did the trail last year, and gave us a rundown of their experience when we first got interested in the trail. I’m glad we have a chance to see them before we leave for the South Island in a few days.
